A fuse is made of metal that easily melts when overheated and a circuit breaker has internal switch mechanisms that are tripped by a surge of electricity.
Older home or apartment usually has one or more fuse boxes with two to eight fuses. The most common type of fuse is made of filament or metal that is enclosed in a ceramic or glass and metal casing. Fuses are measured at 15, 20, or 30 amps, depending on the electrical wire they protect.
When electricity flows, the fuse will allow the power to flow across the filament between the circuits. And when overloads occur, the filament melts and prevents the flow of electricity. The fuse box has the same fuses, and it is essential to replace fuses with the same ampere or higher rating to avoid electrical problems.
Compared to a fuse box, circuit breakers are easier to reset, but they have the same functions. Circuit breakers work through the use of bi-metal strip and an electromagnet. They have switches that are organised in two to eight rows or more, which can run vertically or horizontally. The switch is forced down, up, right, or left when a breaker is tripped.
When turned on, circuit breakers allow electricity to flow from the bottom to the upper terminal through the strip. When resetting the breaker, you can simply press the switch to align it with others, and it will reset the flow of the electricity.
